Thursday, November 10th

Good evening, fantastic 1st/2nd parents!!! We have had a great week! I am so proud of this hard-working class! We have lots of fun coming up and many things to learn! Thank you for checking-in!

Coming Up:

Sunday, November 20th, 11 am: Harvest Dinner at Faith Baptist Church

Classroom Thanksgiving Celebration: Tuesday, November 22nd, 2:00 pm. We will be doing a fun activity based on the book "Thanksgiving on Thursday", enjoying some pumpkin pie and sparkling cider, and watching the movie, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving". (If your child needs a dietary alternative to the pie and/or cider, please send it with them on this day, thank you!).
Thank you for the toy contributions to Operation Christmas Child. We are asking that each child in our class bring in 3 small toys to help fill our shoe boxes! We can still accept these up until Monday, when we work on filling them up!

Coming Up in Reading:

1st Grade:

2nd Grade:

Coming Up in Math:

1st Grade:

We will be working on using near-doubles to add (such as 2+2=4, so we know that 2+3 must equal 5 because 3 is one more than 2 and 5 is one more than 4). We will also focus on problem-solving strategies, making ten to add, and adding in any order.

2nd Grade:

We have been spending a lot of time learning the basics of double-digit addition. This is our main focus right now, including breaking down numbers to make these problems easier to solve. One thing we are focusing on is how it is easier to add numbers ending in "0". So, 24+12=36, but we can break down this problem to be: 30+6, making it easier to arrive at the answer of 36. We will review finding the nearest tens number, adding to ten, and adding double-digit "tens" numbers (40+30=70) to help us be prepared for the work ahead. We will also be studying double-digit problems written in a column versus a row and regrouping.

Coming Up in Bible:
We will be focusing on Thanksgiving, and being grateful to God for all He has done and blessed us with. Our verse this week:
