Friday, October 28th

This blog is coming to you in the midst of conferences this Thursday and Friday. So exciting! I can't wait to share with you how your kiddo is doing this year! This is an amazing class with lots of energy, creativity, and empathy. I feel very lucky to have this group of explorers and I really can't believe the end of the fall term is upon us! This is also a good time for me to share a few reminders with you:

*If you are not receiving emails from myself or Mrs. Warner, please let us know as soon as possible. We want you to be informed!

*The school's website has a calendar and updates that you need to check out, even if you are reading the blogs each week. In case I forget to list an important date here, but I know for sure you'll find it there. http://sonshinechristian.org/elementary-school/

*Sending water bottles with your kiddo is super helpful!

*Please check your child's green folder every night and remove papers they are bringing home. They can keep their spelling/sight word list for the week in there to use for homework throughout the week. That is an especially great idea if they meet with Ms. Jill during aftercare. They know exactly where to get their homework.

*Please let me know if you ever have questions. I prefer email for answers that may take longer than a simple text. I try to respond to emails within 24 hours. You can copy Mrs. Warner on anything you think would be helpful for her to know, and visa-versa. If you email Mrs. Warner and think it would be something helpful for me to know, you can copy me. Many of you already do this, and I appreciate it so much!

Hi Wonderful 1st/2nd Parents! This blog is going to be short and sweet, just like our week ahead!

Math:

1st:

In first grade, we will be focusing on relating addition and subtraction, true and false statements, and "counting on" to solve addition problems. We will also do some work with pennies!

2nd:

Second-graders will continue working on number patterns, skip counting, learning how equal groups can help in addition, and focusing on repeated addition (ex: 2+2+2=6). I am super impressed with the amount of math homework that has been coming back lately! Awesome! If you noticed that there were or will be days in which math homework didn't come home it is usually due to an in-class test (on math test days there is no homework), out-of class testing (MAP, Dibels, etc), or the introduction to a new chapter-all things that happened this last week! (:

Bible:
We will be studying Joshua obeying God, following God's plan to conquer the city of Jericho. Our verse this week is:

Our theme this week is farms! We will also continue learning more about bats and South America.

Saturday, October 29th: Harvest Fest at Faith Baptist Church, 6:30 pm

Reminders:
Please send your kiddos to school with a water bottle. This saves time on trips to the fountain and lines. It makes our water breaks super easy-peezy!

Sight words and spelling words are sent home during the week for students to practice and they are in this blog for your convenience. Practicing at home builds their reading skills! Thank you for making this a part of your routines at home.

The school website has important dates and information. If I forget to include something here, you might be able to find it there. If you need to know about dates, there is a calendar there as well. I love our website!  http://sonshinechristian.org/

You are an amazing group of parents and I am so thankful to teach your kiddos! They are working hard as we learn more and explore new continents this year. We are studying South America. If you have anything to share about this continent or its' countries with our students, please contact me. We would love it!
