Thursday, September 29th

Hello, wonderful 1st/2nd parents! We have had a very full week! I am so proud of these little explorers! I want to share with you what is coming up and some highlights of our week.

Please mark your calendars:

Friday, Oct. 7th: Field Trip
Friday, October 14th: Grandparents' Day

Our theme this coming week is Insects and Spiders! In math, 1st grade will be working on ways to make 10, true and false statements, and finding missing addends. In 2nd grade math, we will be also be working on finding missing addends, modeling subtraction, and fact families. For vocabulary practice, we will listen to a story about bats and answer comprehension questions. We will also be listening for our key vocabulary (see 2nd grade list) as a whole class. Our continent this month is South America! In Bible, we continue to learn about Moses and we will soon be covering the 10 commandments. Our verse this week:

Coming Up:

1st Grade Reading:

2nd Grade Reading:

                                                        Highlights From Our Week:

We learned more about Australia from someone who has spent time there, Mrs Johnson!!! What a treat it was to hear her talk about her amazing adventures, show us where she traveled on the map, show us a real boomerang, didgeridoo, and a photo of her daughter visiting Uluru rock. And it was a very special treat hearing her and Mrs. Warner play the didgeridoos!

Friday, September 23rd

Howdy, fabulous 1st/2nd parents! Your kiddos have been working so hard this week! We've learned so much about Australia, and we've been building our map skills too! They have loved reading realistic fiction (1st grade) and non-fiction (2nd grade). Math has been lively and addition and problem-solving has been at the heart of all math groups' content this week.

Forms!
I realize many forms have been sent home lately and I appreciate you returning them. If you have returned the following forms, just consider this a thank-you, and if you haven't, it's a friendly reminder. And please, please, please let me know if you have not seen the following forms go home so that I can send an additional form to you.

*Field-trip form/payment for the Pumpkin Patch
*Safe Touch lesson permission slip
*Emergency procedure understanding form
(We are still needing many students' emergency kits, thank you if you have given us one already!)

Reminder! Tuesday, September 27th is picture day!

This week in the 1st grade content for math, we will focus on adding to make 9 and 10, and finding missing addends in addition problems. In the second-grade curriculum, we will be counting back to subtract, subtracting all and zero, using doubles to subtract, and relating addition and subtraction.

In Bible, we will focus our attention on Moses and being humble. Our memory verse is:
