January 7th, 2017

Hello, outstanding 1st/2nd parents! Thank you for checking our blog to see what we've been up to and what is coming up! The Christmas Sing-Along with foods from around the world was a hit! Thank you for joining us and for the donations. If you couldn't be with us, we did miss you! I have some pictures from our rehearsal. I borrowed a few pics from Mrs. Lee's blog of the actual performance. My phone was being uncooperative. If you have any pictures of the performance or our time together afterwards, you could email them to me and I can share them in our next blog. We had a lovely surprise from Ms. Jones class of jingling bells that the kiddos got to use during "Jingle Bells". It was so festive and sweet! Our book exchange went great and I would love to do another one this school year.

Important Dates Coming Up:

Monday, January 9th: MAP, DIBELS, and Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessments

Monday, January 16th: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, NO SCHOOL

Tuesday, January 24th: OMSI field trip (please be on the lookout for permission slips going home this week).

Thursday, January 26th: Half Day (Early Release). Open House: 6:30 pm (5:30 pm, pizza, $2 a slice)

Friday, January 27th: NO SCHOOL, Teacher Work Day, end of 2nd quarter

We had a shorter week, but a very productive week. We worked on rules and routines as we all got back into our regular groove and reflected on expectations. We finished some things we missed from the snow days last month and studied about schools from all over the world. We also learned about seasons. We read from our latest Magic Tree House book, "Night of the Ninjas", which takes place in ancient Japan. We did a fun science experiment focusing on gravity, air resistance, and mass of an object. The students got to stand on chairs (I promise, this doesn't usually happen) and compare the difference in dropping a flat piece of paper and a crumpled up piece of paper.

We will be doing MAP, Dibels, and Fountas and Pinnell tests this week. Getting a good rest and eating a filling breakfast will only help the students do their personal best. You can send an extra snack if you would like to. As always, water bottles really help on our water break times and are very convenient. Even though it's been cold out, the kiddos have been so active during recess and PE!

Coming Up This Week:

We will continue to study the way things move in science, Martin Luther King, Jr. in social science, and Nehemiah in Bible. We will be writing about goals. We will have lots of movement and brain-breaks during this time of testing as well.
